Autograph Crazy
each letter and dotted i
unplug a vein in my heart.
I drive my wife mad.
but that day when I saw her deep red lips,
round cheeks, red hat, gold earrings,
and pearl necklace,
my heart went airborne.
no doubt a starlet
from the nearby Netflix shoot.
her chauffer sped off.
I had my pen.
I followed her steps.
no doubt she's the queen bee.
I was careful, kept a close eye.
she raced into Macys.
was fast.
she checked out jewelry.
examined earrings.
probed each piece.
then to perfume and scents.
her wide red hat easy to spot.
my heart burned.
I'll snag her soon.
got my felt pen out.
then near the cosmetics counter,
I lost her
when she dipped
behind a fitting room. gone.
can't be. no. this is not possible.
God must be punishing me.
oh my bruised soul.
I'll catch her at the entrance,
I thought, streetside.
there I waited,
ready to come back to life
in an instant.
she showed.
I grabbed my pen.
she grabbed a cab.
this has got to stop.
